Livingston Temple Softball League 06/22/14
Sharey Tefilo Israel (11-0) won 2 more games on the way to a
possible undefeated season opening up a 2 game lead in the A division. In their
1st game Sunday they were led by home runs from Jason Grebin and Corey
Feigenbaum to defeat a depleted B'nai Shalom team 16-1. Their 2nd game was a
makeup of the 5th week rainout against AABJD and they were down 9-4 into the
bottom of the 4th inning. The STI bats finally came alive with 6 runs for a
10-9 lead on the way to an eventual 14-11 win.
Excellent hitting by Jeff Gaier who was 5 for 5 on the day helped keep
every rally alive. STI has scored the most runs (198) and given up the least (78)
in the League but is not that far ahead of 2nd place B'nai Jeshurun (9-2) who
have scored 188 and given up 85. In B'nai Jeshurun's game it was Eli Heitin
with 2 home runs and a 2 run sacrifice fly as TBJ defeated AABJD 19-4. B'nai
Abraham were 13-5 winners over Pine Brook led by ss Rob Kurtz playing a stellar
shortstop, turning a double play and adding a 3 run triple all with a new hip. Temple
Sinai defeated Temple Emanu-El 22-12.
In B division action all the top teams were winners starting with
Agudath Israel (9-2) who defeated Ohr Torah 23-8. For the winners, Scott Reis
returned from the IR with a homer, double, 3 RBI's and 3 runs. Paul Aronoff was
3-3 with 2 doubles. Charlie Kessler had 3 hits including a triple and Scott
Reiser had 3 hits with two doubles and 3 runs. Temple Sholom (9-2) kept pace
with a win over Suburban Torah using timely hitting to just maintain the lead
all game. A 4 run top of the 7th gave them enough breathing room for the 16-10
win as they held ST scoreless in their final at bat. All the big bats on B'nai
Brith (8-3) were too much for Ner Tamid who lost a 17-11 game despite Justin
Festa's 3 run homer and some highlight reel catches in the outfield. The Festa
family, Ron, Adam & Justin, combined for 7 hits in the loss. B'nai Or led
the entire game against B'nai Israel and were ahead by scores of 9-1 and 14-6
but after 6 innings they were only ahead 19-18. In the top of the 7th, Craig
Rosen (6 RBI's) came through with a bases clearing double to key a 3 run inning
for B'nai Or. B'nai Israel had scored in every inning to that point but went
down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 7th giving B'nai Or the 22-18 win. Also for the
winners, Eric Axler (3 hits, 2 RBI's, 4 runs), Keith Barbarosh (3 hits, 4 runs,
3 RBI's) and Todd Gutkin (3 hits, 3 runs, 3 RBI's). Chabad took an early 1-0
lead on Beth Shalom with a homerun from Joe Boettinger but Beth Shalom came
back with 3 runs to take their first lead. 5 unanswered runs gave Chabad a 6-3
lead but a 6 run 4th put Beth Shalom ahead 9-6. Chabad answered right back with
a 4 run 5th but Beth Shalom added 5 more that inning for their 3rd lead at
14-10. That was it for Beth Shalom though and Chabad had 7 unanswered runs for
the 17-14 win. For the winners, Eric Latzman had 4 hits and 3 runs, Jeff Steil
had 3 hits and 3 runs, Mike Galatioto had 3 hits and 3 runs and David Levine
added a double and a triple. In the loss, Phil Sperling, Zach Cohen, Carl Landsman,
Howard Attermann and Jeff Wasserman all had 3 hits. Jeff Wasserman also had 4
RBI's and 3 runs, and Bob Sperling had 3 RBI's. Scott Sperling scored 3 runs
and Doug Netburn had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI's. Only 3 weeks to go in the
regular season. New players can be added to the roster but will not be eligible
for the playoffs.
