Livingston Temple Softball League 06/01/14

Sharey Tefilo Israel (6-0) survived their 2nd 1 run game of the season to remain undefeated on top of the A Division. B'nai Jeshurun (5-2) was looking to  move into first place after taking a 7-6 lead with a 3 run top of the 6th but Jason Grebin's 3 run blast to right center in the bottom of the inning put TSTI back on top by 2 runs. Aided by Pitcher Mark Licht's fine defensive play in the top of the 7th, TSTI held on for a 9-8 victory as BJ left the tying and go ahead runners on base. AABJD (5-1) kept pace with the leaders with a 15-12 win over B'nai Abraham. In the win, Greg Zuckerman had a 2 run homer and Kenny Falkenstein had an RBI triple. AABJD will meet TSTI in the first game next Sunday and can move into 1st place with a win. Also in the A division, Temple Sinai defeated Pine Brook 17-13 and B'nai Shalom beat the E-Men 24-9.

Agudath Israel (7-0) kept the best record in the League in tact using a 17 run 1st inning to defeat AABJD / Ohr Torah 30-8. CAI also had a 9 run 5th inning. In the win, Jason Kay and Paul Aronoff each had 4 hits and a double. Mark Davis had 3 hits (double, triple, 5 RBI's) and every player scored at least once. B'nai Or won their 2nd game in a row by 15 runs with an 18-3 victory over B'nai Israel. B'nai Or scored 11 runs in the 1st inning and were never threatened. The offense was led by left hander Howard Moseson who hit the right field wall at Okner for a 2 run homer and was 3-3 with 2 runs scored and 4 RBI's for the day. Craig Rosen was 3-3 and had 2 triples and 3 runs scored. Pitcher Jordan Byk held the opposition to only 3 runs and also had a triple, 2 runs and 2 RBI's. B'nai Brith won their 5th straight with a 23-9 victory over Ner Tamid. In that 5 game span BB's average winning margin is 14 runs. Suburban Torah also won their 5th in a row with a 17-12 victory over Temple Sholom. One of those 5 game winning streaks will come to an end with B'nai Brith meeting Suburban Torah in the 1st game next Sunday. It did not look good for Chabad after Beth Shalom took an 8-0 lead in the top of the 4th inning with some very aggressive base running. For the first 3 innings Chabad had not gotten a hit. But John Tshilas keyed a 4 run 4th with a long double  to get them back into it. Beth Shalom answered with 2 in the 5th but Chabad opened the 5th with 8 consecutive hits. Rabbi Mendy Kasowitz, who made the defensive play of the game in the first inning at shortstop, crossed the plate with the 7th run in the 5th which proved to be the winner. Chabad added 2 more runs in the 6th for the 13-10 win. Pitcher Peter Gelman, back from the IR after 2 years, walked only 1 batter in the win and held Beth Shalom scoreless over the final 2 innings.  For the losers, Jeff Wasserman was 3-4 with 4 RBI's and Doug Netburn had 3 doubles, scored 3 runs and had an RBI.
