Livingston Temple Softball League 05/29/16

In the A division, Temple Sharey Tefilo Israel won both halves of their DH to remain undefeated at 5-0 in our abbreviated season. But they also found themselves in unfamiliar territory down 8-3 to Temple Sholom after 4 innings. Then the bats woke up and they scored 9 in the 5th and 8 in the 6th on the way to a 20-11 victory. Jason Grebin had 3 homeruns in the win for TSTI. Cary Bayer, Mark Licht, Ken Gorman, David Kramer, and Dave Pressel had 3 hits each for the winners. They also defeated Suburban Torah 18-10. In that game, Jeff Becker, Steve Weissman, Rob Lazurus and Mike Somekh had 3 hits each. Also, Jared Bayer got his first 2 hits in Temple League play. AABJD won their game against Suburban 16-5 but lost a tight one to Temple Sinai 8-7. Jeff Falkenstein had a 3 run triple in the win while Rafi Abramowitz and Jay Gertleman both homered in the 1st and 2nd game. Chabad defeated Temple Sinai 16-9 in their 1st game and lost the 2nd to Pine Brook 14-12. Great grandfather Bernie Neustadt scored in both games for Chabad and had a single and 2 walks. In their win, Joe Bottinger was 4-4 and scored 4 runs, Max Burack was 3-3 and scored twice, Rabbi Mendy had a bases loaded hit to drive in 2 and Jeff Steil homered. Also, Pine Brook defeated B’nai Brith 25-14.

There are no undefeated teams left in the B division with Agudath Israel and Beth Shalom both splitting on the day. Agudath’s 1st game was a 24-7 win over Temple Emanu-El with homers from Greg Adelsberg and Simeon Gutman. Greg also homered in their 2nd game but that was a 6-4 loss to Beth Shalom (Steve Siegal 3-3, 2 RBI’s). Beth Shalom was leading their 1st game 5-3 through 5 innings but B’nai Or scored 7 runs in the last 2 innings to take the game 10-7. In the win, Adam Forman (3-3, BB, 2 runs), Jason Cohen (Triple, 3 RBI’s), Eric Axler (2 hits, 2 runs). B’nai Or’s 2nd game went 8 innings with B’nai Israel. Bill Schlosser’s great defensive play in right field helped B’nai Or maintain the lead 17-13 after 5 innings. B’nai Israel scored 3 in the home 6th but left the bases loaded with 2 outs. Then B’nai Israel tied it with a solo homerun in the 7th. But B’nai Or’s bat’s came back to life and they scored 5 in the 8th for the 22-17 win. For the winners, Adam Forman was 4-4 with a homer, 4 runs and 4 RBI’s. Eric Axler had 3 hits, a homer, 3 runs and 5 RBI’s. Jason Cohen, Adam Lazer, Keith Barbarosh and Bill Schlosser all had 3 hits. Ner Tamid was down 10-2 to AABJD/Ohr Torah and scored 5 in the 6th but only managed 1 in the 7th after loading the bases with 1 out as they fell 10-8. Only 1 game next week (Israeli Day Parade) and no games the following week (Shavuot).

Livingston Temple Softball League 05/15/16

It's been close to 30 years since this League has been playing organized games and never has the weather challenged the schedule as it has this season. 5/15 was supposed to be the mid-point of the regular season and so far the teams without a bye have completed only 3 games. It is going to be almost impossible to have a 14 game regular season at this point.
Next Sunday we have a scheduled double header as listed on the regular schedule. But the following 2 weekends are Memorial Day and the Israeli Day Parade.

Temple Sharey Tefilo Israel (3-0) kept their winning streak going with a 22-3 win over Chabad. TSTI scored 16 runs in the bottom of the 1st and pitcher Mark Licht held the potent Chabad offense to only 3 runs with the  usual good defense behind him from the perennial winners. Dave Pressel led the offense with 4 hits. Temple Sinai (3-0) stayed in a tie for the top spot in the A division but it took a 7th inning rally. Sloppy base running and rusty defense had Sinai down 10-8 in the last inning but they scored 3 runs to defeat Suburban Torah 11-10.  AABJD just nipped B'nai Brith 15-14 in 8 innings. Rafi Abramowitz had a 2 run homer in the 6th to get AABJD close and Doni Israeli's sac fly RBI was the winner in the 8th. Also, Pine Brook defeated Temple Sholom 14-12.

Agudath Israel (3-0) maintained their undefeated status in the highest scoring game of the day with a 30-27 win over B'nai Israel. Agudath scored 12 runs in the 1st but B'nai Israel had the tying run at the plate in the 7th before falling. In the win, Robert Field had a homer, Paul Aronoff reached base safely 6-6 and Alex Nathan reached base safely 5-5. Temple Emanu-El scored 7 in the first and 17 in the 2nd on the way to a 26-9 win over AABJD Ohr Torah. Despite having only 8 players, B'nai Jeshurun defeated B'nai Or 18-3. Scott Dodek pitched a great game in the win backed by the stellar defense of Nathan, Steckow, Weinstein, Talbert, Hansel, Bimberg and Jacobs. Every player had at least 3 hits. Beth Shalom were unlikely winners in their game against Ner Tamid considering the 18 walks issued by relief pitcher Bob Sperling. Down 10-2 early, Beth Shalom hit their way back to a 14-10 lead in the 5th. Ner Tamid tied it at 15 but left the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th to force the extra frame. Beth Shalom scored 5 in the top of the 8th to take it 20-15. For the winners, Jeremy Kross had 2 homers and 3 RBI's, Steve Siegal had a 3 run homer and 4 RBI's, Doug Netburn had a 3 run homer, Phil Sperling had 4 hits, Eric Naggar had 4 hits and 3 runs, and Jeff Katz had 3 runs.
