Livingston Temple Softball League 06/07/15
Sharey Tefilo Israel (10-0)
had all they could handle with Temple Sinai this past Sunday but still managed
another win. TSTI only had a 1 run lead into the 7th inning as their opponents
played solid defense and added timely hitting for the first 6 innings. The
visiting Sharey Tefilo Israel added only 1 more run in the top of the 7th for a
shaky 2 run lead at 12-10. But Temple Sinai failed to score in the bottom of
the inning with a diving catch of a line drive over 3rd base by Carey Bayer
ending it at that score. Consistent hitting continued for the winners from Jeff
Becker, David Pressel and Dave Denenberg. Temple Sinai's makeup game was just
as close against Pinebrook. TS scored 8 runs in the 5th inning and took a 5 run
lead into the bottom of the 7th. No problem for Pinebrook who came up with 5
runs to force extra innings at 13-13. TS then scored 4 more in the 8th and Rick
Teich's sliding catch in the outfield in the bottom of the 8th gave Temple
Sinai the 17-14 win. Pinebrook's earlier game against B'nai Jeshurun saw them
with an early 9-2 lead but B'nai Jeshurun fought all the way back for a 13-12
lead going into the bottom of the 7th. Winning it for Pinebrook (7-3) though was
Amen Setrak's 2 run walk off homer with no outs in the home 7th. AABJD (7-3)
won both games of their double header
defeating Temple Sholom 14-11 in the early game. TSWE was down 14-4
going into the 7th and managed to score 7 runs with 2 outs in the loss before
they ran out of gas. In the first win, Jeff Falkenstein had a homer and 4 RBI's
and Josh Kaplan had 2 RBI's. AABJD also got the better of B'nai Jeshurun by a
14-7 margin with Jeff Falkenstein adding 2 more triples. AABJD's 5 game winning
streak is now the 2nd longest current streak in the league. Suburban Torah won
their 3rd in a row after a 1-6 start defeating B'nai Shalom 22-1.
In the B division, B'nai
Brith (8-2) maintained a share of 1st handling Agudath Israel 21-11. Chabad
(8-2) kept pace with a 17-13 win over B'nai Or (7-3). A 9-2 lead after 3
innings for B'nai Or was not big enough to hold off Chabad who scored 7 in the
4th to tie it up. B'nai Or came back to go ahead 13-10 but 7 more runs in the
top of the 7th put the game away at 17-13 for Chabad. B’nai Or has given up 38
runs to Chabad in 2 losses but against the rest of the B division are 7-1
giving up an average of only 8 runs per game. In the win, Peter Gelman was
5-5, Micha Mandel had 4 RBI's, and Donny
Kanovsky scored 3 times and had a terrific sliding / diving catch in left
center. David Levine and Eric Latzman also had 3 hits each. Beth Shalom (7-3)
defeated Ner Tamid 8-4 with both teams making great defensive plays. Beth
Shalom pulled off 3 inning ending double plays and an 8-6-5 put out of a runner
trying to stretch a double into a triple to kill a rally. Ner Tamid had an
outfield assist also on a 10-5 put out at 3rd with a perfect strike
thrown from right field to get a runner that was trying to go 1st
to 3rd on a single. Ner Tamid's only offense came from the Festa
family with Father Ron getting a double, Adam adding 2 triples and Justin
blasting a homerun. For Beth Shalom it started with back to back triples from
Eli Montag and Neil Grossman who was 3-3 with 2 RBI's on the day. Harris Kirsch had a double and 2 RBI's and
Eli and Neil both scored twice in Beth Shalom's victory. Also, B'nai Abraham
edged Temple Emanu-El 7-6 and AABJD/Ohr Torah defeated B'nai Israel 24-11.
