Livingston Temple Softball League 07/09/17
The regular season came to a close and the playoffs begin next
week. Chabad had already locked up the #1 seed in the A division and lost 4-3
to B'nai Jeshurun (9-5) who ended tied with B'nai Brith for 2nd but lost the
tiebreaker in their head to head matchup. B'nai Brith defeated Temple Sinai
16-8 behind the hitting of Howie Weinrib (3-3, HR). The defense was led by shortstop
Alex Lee and Paul Kuchinsky who made great plays all game at 3rd base. In the
1st round playoff matchups #1 Chabad gets #8 AABJD, #2 B'nai Brith gets #7
Agudath Israel, #3 B'nai Jeshurun plays #6 Temple Sinai and in a rematch of
last week on the same field as last week #4 Sharey Tefilo Israel is the home
team again against #5 Pine Brook.
All B'nai Or had to do to be #1 in B was give up less than 33 runs
this week. They were leading 11-4 in the bottom of the 5th when David Touger of
B'nai Israel made a spectacular catch in right center but collided with his own
teammate injuring his lower leg and after the wait for the EMT's BI decided to concede
the game. B'nai Abraham's 22-16 win over Ner Tamid placed them as the #3 seed
in the B division. AABJD / Ohr Torah was defeated 23-5 by Beth Shalom and will
be playing them again in the #4-#5 matchup in the 1st playoff round as the
visitor since they lost the tiebreaker. In the win, Beth Shalom capped a 12 run
1st inning with Steve Siegal's 2 out grand slam (3 hits, 5 RBI's). Mike
Elchoness hit his 2nd HR in 2 weeks (3 RBI's). Russ Wachtler, Gabe Ollins and
Justin Friedman were all 3-3 with 3 runs scored. Jeremy Kross (3-4, 3B,2 RBI's), Neil Grossman
(3 hits), Eric Naggar (3-4, 3 RBI's), Mark Konstandt (3-4), and Aa\aron
Attermann ( 2 doubles, 2 runs, 3 RBI's). B'nai Or will have a bye this week.
The other matchups in B will see #2 Suburban Torah against #7 Ner Tamid and #3
B'nai Abraham vs. #6 B'nai Israel.
