Livingston Temple Softball League 06/25/17

After a 15-0 win in their 1^st game against AABJD the A division leaders Chabad (10-2) defeated Agudath Israel 15-10 to open up a 2 game lead with only 2 games to go in the regular season. Leading the way for Chabad in game 2 was Eric Latzman who was 4-4 with a 2 run homer and 6 RBI’s. B’nai Brith’s 6 game winning streak was ended in a 20-19 loss to Pine Brook. BB had the tying run on in the bottom of the 7^th but could not get it across. Jared Resnick and Paul Velelis were both 4-4 in the loss. In game 2 BB was down 6 runs going into the bottom of the 7^th against B’nai Jeshurun but 2 quick runs followed by a Howie Weinrib grand slam tied it up at 15. Then back to back singles from Gregg Weinberger and Shelly Cohen led to a 2 out game winning RBI single off the bat of Andrew Kasdan.

Suburban Torah (9-2) won both halves of their DH and can lock up the B division with a win over B’nai Or this Sunday. But B’nai Or (8-2) can lock up at least a tie with a win over ST also. B’nai Or only had 1 game last week and it was an 18-13 win over Ner Tamid who led almost the entire way until B’nai Or scored 2 in the bottom of the 5^th to tie it up at 7. Then B’nai Or came back with an 11 run bottom of the 6^th to put it away. For the winners, pitcher Jordan Byk played great defense and had a bases clearing triple; SS Jason Cohen initiated two 6-6-3 double plays and also had two key hits; Keith Barbarosh had 4 hits, scored 3 and drove in 4; Hal Belovin had 3 hits and 3 RBI’s and Eric Axler played solid outfield defense adding 2 hits and 3 runs.

Livingston Temple Softball League 06/11/17

In the A division, Chabad (8-2) had the better side of both halves of their DH beating Temple Sinai 25-15 while also receiving a forfeit win over Agudath Israel giving them sole position of 1^st place. In Chabad's win over Temple Sinai at Okner, David Levine hit a ball over the right field fence ‎for HR and Chris Caplan hit one to left center field over the fence for another HR the next inning. Chris also had a triple to dead center in his next at bat. Everyone hit up and down the line up and Chabad played solid defensively. In the 3rd with the bases loaded and 2 outs Peter Gelman caught a line drive bullet up the middle to end the inning and strand the runners. B'nai B'rith continued their winning ways to extend their league leading streak to 6, taking both ends of Sunday’s doubleheader. In the first game, strong hitting by Don Newell, Andrew Kasdan, and Steve Miller helped lead BB to a 23-8 win over AABJD. In the second game, Bnai Brith jumped out to a 16-0 nothing lead behind the hitting of Andrew Kasdan (3-4 including a home run), Paul Kuchinsky (2-3), and Gary Lubin (2-4 with a home run) and kept B'nai Jeshrun at bay for a 16-8 win. B'nai Brith played well defensively in both games and Jared Resnick pitched well to get both wins.

B’nai Or (7-2) moved into a tie for the top spot in the B division after winning both games. A 14 run first inning including 3 homers in a row against Beth Shalom led to a 26-2 5 inning game. Eric Axler was 4-4 and scored 4. Jason Cohen was 4-4 with a homer, 4 runs scored and 3 rbis. Keith Barbarosh had 3 hits with a homer, scored 4 with 4 rbis. Scott Charles was 3-4 with a double and homer, scored 3 and had 5 rbis. In their second game B'nai Or beat Ner Tamid 12-8. Eric Axler had 3 more hits and scored 4 again. Keith had 4 more rbis and Bill Schlosser had 3 hits including another triple while scoring twice. In the loss Mike Miller had a three-run homer in the sixth to turn it into a contest but Ner Tamid could only get within 4.

2 home runs from Scott Levy along with a diving catch for Temple B'nai Abraham led to a 1st game 19-13 win over B’nai Israel. Suburban Torah (7-2) had their 6 game win streak snapped when Eric Feiler hit a 2 run single with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th to give AABJD / Ohr Torah a 13-12 win over the 1st place team. AABJD / Ohr Torah went on to win both ends of their DH defeating B'nai Abraham 13-11 in the 2nd game.

Livingston Temple Softball League 06/04/17

In a high scoring game, Chabad (6-2) edged Temple Sharey Tefilo Israel by five runs. Chabad took a 5 -0 lead early and with a 6 run 6th inning went on to a 23-18 victory. For the winners, Micha Mandel went 3/4 plus a walk and scored 4 times while Dave Levine's 3 run homer put Chabad in the driver's seat in the big 6th. Eric Latzman was 3/4 with a huge 2 RBI double in the 3rd and David Lysek was 4/5 with 2 doubles. B'nai Jeshurun (6-2) remained tied for 1st with Chabad after winning a close one against Temple Sinai 16-14. The TBJ offense was paced by Mike Hansel who was 4-4 with two home runs and David Nathan who hit his own 4 bagger into the parking lot at Riker Hill. Temple Sinai had the tying run at bat in the seventh inning before Rich Blann was able to initiate a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.  B'nai Brith won their 4th in a row holding on for a 13-9 win over Agudath Israel after taking a 13-0 lead. AI scored 8 runs in the bottom of the 6th to make things close, but were only able to plate one run in the 7th allowing BB to take the win. Don Newell led BB going 4-4, and Wayne Neumann fielded his position well while pitching the B's to victory.

In the B division, first place Suburban Torah (6-1) won their league leading 6th in a row defeating B'nai Abraham 21-12. 2nd place B'nai Or (5-2) had their hands full with AABJD/Ohr Torah in a game that saw 5 early lead changes. But B'nai Or scored 7 times in the 5th to take a 16-8 lead and held on for the 17-13 win. Eric Axler had a double and homer scoring 4 times. Keith Barbarosh had 3 hits including a double and a triple off the fence at Okner with 5 RBI's. Neill Hamilton had two timely two out hits for 3 RBI's. Jordan Byk came back to pitch in relief with a great effort retiring 8 of the last 9 batters. DH this Sunday starting at 9 with the 6/11 game followed by the 5/14 makeup.
