Livingston Temple Softball League 06/05/16

It turns out if it was not for the early start because of the Israeli Day Parade we would have been rained out again. And the streak would not have ended because Sharey Tefilo Israel (5-1) finally lost a game after 43 wins in a row. It will be a while before any team matches that feat again since it was over a 3 year span. Their last prior loss was on 7/7/13 to B'nai Jeshurun. Suburban Torah pulled off the upset with the aid of the 9 player rule. They were able to build a 14-5 lead after 4 and just managed ( something nobody else was able to do for a long time) to hold on for a 16-14 win. 3 teams are at 4-2 only 1 game back of STI in the A division- Pine Brook, AABJD and Temple Sinai. Chabad (3-3) defeated Pine Brook 28-13 despite numerous injuries (75 year old Bernie Neustadt scored as a pinch runner). Also for the winners, Scott Bader had 4 hits, Jon Tishlas 3 hits, Dave Levine had a homer, double and 2 singles and scored 3 times. Jeff Steil had 5 hits including a double and triple. Peter Gelman pitched well and had 5 hits. Evan Bell had 4 hits and 3 runs. Eric Latzman blasted 2 homeruns. Rabbi Mendy Kasowitz had 4 hits, 4 runs and also homered. Nick Catz was 3/3 with a triple and 5 runs. Keith Bader had 3 RBI's and 3 hits. AABJD defeated Temple Sinai  with long doubles into the trees at Harrison from Jay Gertleman and Ariel Fournier. Greg Zuckerman added 2 RBI's and pitcher Chaim Goldman only gave up 2 earned runs. B'nai Brith won their match up with Temple Sholom 21-9.

Agudath Israel (5-1) maintained their hold on 1st in the B division narrowly getting by Ner Tamid 9-8. Robert Field's 3 run homer in the bottom of the paved the way to a 1st inning tie at 4 for Agudath. Mike Miller's 3rd hit of the game tied it at 6 in the top of the 6th for Ner Tamid and NT took the lead in the same inning 8-6 after Jeff Bernstein's single. But David Lurie's 2 run triple in the bottom of the 7th tied it up again. Dave went on to score the winning run. B'nai Jeshurun (4-1) got the best of Temple Emanu-El 13-2 and now have the longest winning streak in the league at 4 in a row. B'nai Israel defeated AABJD/Ohr Torah 26-10. B'nai Abraham put on an offensive show led by Craig Schachter (4 hits, 2B, 5 runs) and Scott Levy (9 RBI's, 2 HR's, 2B, 3B, 4 runs) in their win over Beth Shalom 24-9. Craig also made some great defensive plays in left while Scott robbed a homerun from Beth Shalom grabbing a line drive in center with his back to the plate.

No games next Sunday. We are back on 6/19. The plan is to finish the season with all double headers. As soon as we figure out the exact schedule it will be posted. We are not going to have a full season and we are trying to make sure everyone in B plays each other at least 1 time since it is an unbalanced schedule.
