Livingston Temple Softball League 06/19/16
Sharey Tefilo Israel raised
their record to 7-1 and opened up a 2 game lead in the A division after
sweeping their DH Sunday. In their 1st game 22-16 victory over Temple Sinai TSTI was only up by one, 15-14 after five
innings and then out scored Temple Sinai 7-2 in the last two. Matt Katz, David Kramer, Jason Grebin, Mark Licht, Steve Weissman and Eric Rothfeld each had three hits. Jason Grebin had two home runs. It was also a very
close one with Chabad as they were up 8-5 after 5 on the way to a 12-7 win. Mark Licht pitched a great game and had three
hits while Eric Rothfeld,
Rob Lazarus, Matt Katz and Jared
Bayer each had two hits. Eric Rothfeld hit a
towering home run into the Harrison trees. B'nai Brith defeated Chabad in the
1st game 10-4 led by the timely hitting of
Andrew Kasdan, Paul Velelis, Scott Samlin, and Gregg Weinberger, while
the defense was led by Barry Sobel who made 2 diving catches in left center
field right before the woods at Harrison. Game 2 was a 21-10 win over AABJD and
while the entire team hit, once again Gregg Weinberger led the way at the plate
by knocking in several runs. Behind the steady pitching of Wayne Neumann, the
B's were once again led by fine defensive plays in the outfield by Kasdan, and
Velelis, as well as a highlight reel play at the plate where second baseman
Alex Lee took the cutoff and threw a strike to catcher Paul Kuchinsky who
slapped on the tag to kill a potential game changing rally from AABJD. Pine
Brook took their 1st game 20-5 over AABJD but lost the night cap 22-20 to
Temple Sholom. Suburban Torah's 1st game was a 23-8 win over Temple Sholom.
Agudath Israel matched the best record in
the League at 7-1 winning both of their games also. First a 27-19 win vs. B'nai
Abraham paced by a Marc Davis grand slam. In the second game Agudath beat
Temple Emanu-El 22-20 in a come back win. Charlie Kessler, Mark
Davis and Greg Adelsberg all homered in the 7 run top of the 7th. B'nai
Jeshurun (5-1) extended the leagues longest current winning streak to 5 in a
row with a 20-4 win over B'nai Israel. In that 5 game span BJ has given up only
23 runs (4.6 avg). B'nai Or kept up their winning streak beating AABJD/Ohr
Torah 16-5 in the 1st game. A 7 run 1st and 4 run 2nd allowed them to coast the
rest of the way. Solid defense all around. Adam
Forman had two homers, scored 3 with 4 RBI'S. Keith Barbarosh had a 3 run homer
and Jason Cohen had a 2 run homer, scored 3 and added 3 RBI'S. Bill Schlosser
had 2 hits including a triple and 2 RBI'S. Game 2 was 11-4 over Beth
Shalom in which Jason Cohen had a 2 run homer and scored twice. Adam Forman had
a homer and 3 RBI'S. Todd Gutkin had 2 runs and 2 RBI'S. Good defense again helped secure the victory. Scott Charles ran down a
deep shot to left center. Jason Cohen had 6 assists and a putout at shortstop.
Todd Gutkin had 5 putouts at third. Jordan Byk pitched a solid game.
Harris Kirsch had a solo homerun in the loss. Ner Tamid lost another one in the
final inning this time 14-13 to AABJD/ Ohr Torah. TNT batted around in a
seven-run fourth, capped by David Dreier's two-run homer, and opened up a 13-5
lead in the top of the fifth, but surrendered a grand slam in the fifth, and a
two-run homer, two-run double and a single in the seventh to lose it. Next
Sunday 6/26 another DH starting at 9 AM. Fields will be changing again so check
carefully. After the regularly scheduled game we will be playing the makeup
from 5/1. No games July 4th weekend. The last week of the season will be a DH
on 7/10 with the playoffs to follow 7/17.
