B’nai Jeshurun is having no
problem with the move up from B to A.
They are now tied for 1st at 4-2 with Chabad and Sharey
Tefilo and are the only team in the A division to have scored over 100 runs so
far. They won the opener over Sharey Tefilo Israel Sunday by a 20-17 margin in
an 8 inning game before losing the 2nd to Pine Brook 15-14. B’nai Brith got their first win of the
season yesterday and kept it going by sweeping both ends of their DH. In the 1st
game, Chabad took an early lead against BB in the first inning when Dave Levine
hit a three-run homer into the woods at the Harrison school field. Chabad added
to this total over the next two innings, taking a 6-0 lead into the top of the
4th inning. B'nai B'rith, which only had one hit up to that point, proceeded to
bat around their order scoring nine runs taking a 9-6 lead enroute to an 18-11
victory. In game two, B'nai B'rith once again overcame an early deficit. After
AABJD scored three runs in the top half of the first inning, Alex Lee started
the comeback for B'nai B'rith by leading off the bottom of the first with a
home run. B'nai B'rith scored three more times for a 4-3 lead on the way to a
16-10 win. Other notable standouts for BB were Gary Lubin and Paul Velelis who
both hit triples and home runs, and Jared Resnick who also hit a home run to
pad the lead for B'nai B'rith's second victory of the day, and the season.
Agudath Israel split their two games defeating Pine Brook 20-9 led by Paul
Aronoff who was 5-5 with a HR, They fell to STI 15-10 in the 2nd and Charlie
Kessler was 4-4 in the loss.
Suburban Torah (4-1) swept
their DH to move into 1st place all alone in the B division while B’nai
Or (4-2) is in 2nd place after winning both their games. B'nai Or is
also leading the entire league in runs scored with 117. Their first game win
was 22-7 over B'nai Abraham where they got off to a big lead early. On offense,
Eric Axler was 3-3 with a triple and 4 runs. Dennis Bellovin was 4-4 and scored
4 times and Scott Charles had a HR, 5 RBI's and was 3-4. In game 2 they defeated
Beth Shalom 19-10 with Scott Charles adding another HR and 4 RBI's. Fred Kane
scored 3 times in the win.
