Livingston Temple Softball League 05/17/15
With 2 games postponed and 2
games forfeited there were only 5 games played this past Sunday. Sharey Tefilo
Israel (8-0) did not have to play to gain their 8th win since B'nai Shalom
could not field a team. The game between Pinebrook and Temple Sinai could not
be played due to poor field conditions and AABJD's game against B'nai Jeshurun
had the same problem. The only A division game that was able to be played was
Suburban Torah vs. Temple Sholom in a battle of the two teams that moved up
from B to A this season. Filling in for Suburban Torah was Adam Blank who hit a
3 run homer in the top of the 7th for the game winner in a 14-12 victory.
B'nai Brith (7-1) held on to
their share of 1st place in the B division with an 11-4 win over B'nai Abraham.
Chabad (7-1) followed suit with a forfeit win over Temple Emanu-El. After
scoring only 2 runs the previous week, B'nai Or (6-2) got back on track with 16
runs defeating B'nai Israel 16-9. In the win, all 13 players scored and 11 players
had RBI's. B'nai Or broke the game open with 8 hits in a row to start a 10 run
3rd inning. Adam Forman (2B, 3B, 2 runs, 2 RBI's), Brian Wentworth (HR, 3B, 2
runs, 2 RBI's), Adam Lazer (3 hits, 2 RBI's), Paul Delson (3 hits, 2 RBI's) and
Eric Scheingotz (3 hits) led the offense in the win. Beth Shalom (6-2) had an
11-8 lead after 5 and 1/2 innings over Ohr Torah with some timely hitting and
great defense. A 5 run bottom of the 6th finally put the game away for Beth Shalom with Jon
Arnold (3-3) and Eric Naggar both hitting RBI triples in the inning. Phil
Sperling, while invisible at the plate, still managed the final RBI for a big
insurance run. Also 3-3 in the 16-13 win were Mark Konstandt, Doug Netburn and
Dan Block. Agudath Israel evened up their record with an 18-4 win over Ner
Tamid. For the winners, Joe Kelmanovich and Greg Adelsberg both homered and Paul
Aronoff was 4-4. No games next week (Shavuot). 5/31 Israeli Day Parade - games
at 9 AM. 6/7 games will also be at 9 AM.

Sharey Tefilo Israel (7-0) looked like they were
going to have another quick game when they scored 11 in the first inning but
Suburban Torah kept narrowing the gap every inning before falling in a 17-12 victory
for TSTI. Pitcher Dave Kramer was 4-4 with a HR in the win. The outstanding
outfield defense continued for the leaders with Steve Weisman making some rally
killing sliding catches in right center and Larry Feigenbaum making a juggling catch in center. Keeping up
with the A division leaders was Pinebrook (6-1) who narrowly got by B'nai
Shalom 13-12. AABJD held Temple Sinai to only 3 runs on the strength of some
great defense by shortstop Moshe Glick and 2nd baseman Joshua Kaplan in their 11-3 win.
Chabad (6-1) maintained a share of the B division
lead with a 19-9 win over AABJD/Ohr Torah. Peter Gelman and Eric Latzman both
homered in the win. Donny Kanovsky was 3-3 and also added a long HR for Chabad.
On defense David Levine made a diving catch in right center taking away a run
scoring hit from the opposition. In his 2nd game back for Temple Emanu-El, Alan Salzman was doing
what he has done for many years - annoying the opposing batters. B'nai Brith (6-1)
could only manage 3 runs in the first 6 innings and went into the bottom of the
7th down 9-3 to the E-Men. But back to back homeruns from Jason Crimmins and
Ken Merber after 1 out put B'nai Brith within striking distance. A few batters
later Ira Perlstein blasted a game winning HR to ice it at 10-9. Ner Tamid had homeruns from Rob Crum, Dave
Drier and Mike Miller but in the bottom of the 7th they left the tying and
winning runs on 2nd and 3rd falling to B'nai Abraham 10-9. Agudath Israel was
down 21-18 in the top of the 7th with the bases loaded but failed to push any
more runs across in a loss to B'nai Israel. In a very low scoring affair Beth
Shalom did not have one extra base hit in the entire game. The closest they
could get was a drive toward the right field line that was gloved by Bill
Schlosser with a great play. B'nai Or only had one extra base hit which was a
long drive by Jason Cohen into deep center for a triple but the runner from
first base was tagged out at home on great throws by Zach Cohen (RC) to Eli
Montag (SS) to Dan Bank (C). Other outstanding defensive plays on Beth Shalom
were made by Jeff Wasserman (3B) and Brett Kaplice (1B) as they held on to win
6-2.

Livingston Temple Softball League 05/03/15
Sharey Tefilo Israel combined
a consistent offense and some stellar defensive plays (Mike Somekh, Matt Katz)
to lift their record to 6-0 holding on to a 1 game lead in the A division. Eric
Rothfeld had a HR in the win. For the record it was the 27th win in
a row for TSTI. Pine Brook (5-1) defeated Temple Sholom 12-9 to remain in 2nd
place. Temple Sinai won a close one over Suburban Torah 16-14.
Chabad finally lost a game
setting up a 3 way tie for first in the B division at 5-1. It was B’nai Brith
(5-1) scoring 6 runs in the 2nd inning and holding on for an 11-9
win against Chabad to gain a share of first. B’nai Or is the other 5-1 team but
had to sweat out a 1 run victory over B’nai Abraham. B’nai Or was down 11-6 but
scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 6th and held B’nai Abraham
scoreless in the 7th for the 12-11 victory. In the win, Jason Cohen
was 2 for 3 with a HR and 3 runs scored. Adam Forman had 2 hits, 2 runs and 2
RBI’s. Brian Wentworth was 4-4 with 2 runs and Bill Schlosser 3-3, triple and 2
runs. Ner Tamid kept Temple Emanu-El scoreless for 5 innings, executing two inning
ending double plays (one with the bases loaded), but The E-Men finally scored 8
runs in the 6th inning for the 10-5 win. In the victory Temple
Emanu-El celebrated the long awaited return of veteran pitcher Alan Saltzman
who had an on OBP of 1.000 while throwing his usual gem. Beth Shalom broke open
a close game with B’nai Israel by batting around all 16 players in the lineup
in an 11 run 5th inning. The offense was led by Zach Cohen (3B, HR, 2
runs) and Gabe Ollins (3-3, 2 RBI’s). Zach also took a home run away from the
opposition with a great running over the shoulder catch in right center. In the
loss, Josh Jacobs, rumored to have at least one perfect game in bowling, had a
perfect game at the plate (4-4, HR, 4 runs, 2 RBI’s). Also, Agudath Israel
defeated AABJD/Ohr Torah 22-7. Mother’s Day this Sunday - games are at 9 AM.
