Livingston Temple
Softball League 04/27/14
Sharey Tefilo Israel (3-0) continued their hot start in
the A division with a 20-9 win over Temple Sinai. It was close for a while even
with TSTI going up 4-0 early after Eric Rothfeld's first inning home run. Because
in the top of the 2nd Temple Sinai scored 5 to take the lead. TSTI came right
back in the bottom of the inning with 7 more but 4 more from Temple Sinai in
the 3rd and 4th narrowed the margin again at 11-9. An outstanding diving catch
in center field by Dave Denenberg ended Temple Sinai's scoring and TSTI plated
the last 9 runs from that point. David Kramer added to the offense with 2
homeruns over the rightfield fence at the field behind the High School. B'nai
Shalom (2-1) notched their 2nd in a row with a 22-4 win over AABJD. Scoring 11
in the 1st and 9 in the 4th it was over early. For the winners, David Katz,
Mark Frankel and Greg Frankel were all 4-4, Keith Bader drove in 4 runs and
Mike Volpe homered. Temple B'nai Jeshurun (2-1) defeated B'nai Abraham 14-11
led by long homeruns from Marc Weinstein and Paul Talbert. Dan Jacobs had 3
hits and scored 3 runs in the win. Pine Brook was up 14-0 after 3 and coasted
to a 24-11 win over Temple Emanu-El. Steve Horowitz and Adam Steckleman both
went 4-4 for PB while Michael Brachfeld
and David Reiss also homered.
In the B division only Agudath Israel (3-0) remained
unbeaten with a close 10-9 last inning win over Beth Shalom (2-1). BS got off
to an early 2-0 lead thanks to Doug Netburn's (3-3, 3 RBI's, 3 runs) 1st inning
homer. CAI answered with a total of 6 in the 1st and 3rd but a 5 run 6th put
Beth Shalom up 9-8. It looked like Charlie Kessler tied it up for sure in the
bottom of the 6th but Phil Sperling took away the sure home run with a
tremendous defensive play in centerfield. Beth Shalom failed to score in the
7th and Paul Aronoff (4-4, 3 runs, 3 RBI's) hit the game winning 2 run double
with 1 out. Also for the winners, Simeon Gutman had 2 hits and 4 RBI's while
Mark Davis went 3 for 3 with a triple and 3 RBI's. In the loss, Jeff Wasserman
was 3-3 and Neil Grossman had 3 RBI's. Chabad (2-1) outlasted B'nai Israel 10-8
getting the last out of the game with a tag play at the plate by Steve Goldman.
Pitcher Tuvia Sahl had 3 hits and an RBI in the win. Rabbi Mendy Kasowitz had a
bases loaded 2 run double which was followed by a 2 run triple from Evan Bell. Eric
Latzman and Donny Kanovsky had 3 hits each. Ner Tamid (2-1) is off to their
best start ever and in a 4 way tie for 2nd place after they defeated AABJD/Ohr
Torah 17-7. Their offense was led by Justin Festa with 4 hits and Rob Crum with
two home runs. Temple Sholom of West Essex is also 2-1 and tied for 2nd but
that was after they suffered their first loss of the season, losing to B'nai
Brith (1-2) by the score of 26-5. Suburban Torah got their first win of the
season with a 17-3 win over B'nai Or.
