yet just edging Pinebrook by 1 run. TSTI was down 8-2 after 3 innings and 11-5
after 5 innings but a 6 run burst in the top of the 6th, highlighted by a sliding
Steve Weisman who avoided a tagout at the plate, knotted the game at 11.
Pinebrook was held scoreless in the bottom of the frame and some clutch hitting
by Cary Bayer gave TSTI a 13-11 lead into the bottom of the 7th as they held on
for the 13-12 victory after a line drive back to pitcher Mark Licht ended the
game. AABJD bounced back with a 23-10
win over Temple Sinai. For the winners, Kenny Falkenstein hit a 2 run homer,

wooden bat era. Also in A division play B'nai Jeshurun topped Temple Emanu-El
26-3.
Agudath Israel remained undefeated in the B division with a 31-13 win over Ner
Tamid. CAI had 14 runs in the first 2

double, 5 runs), Jeff Weinstock (double, triple, 5 RBI), Greg Adelsberg (HR, 6
RBI), Mark Davis (HR) and Andy Brown (HR). Temple Sholom (3-1) kept pace with
the leaders beating B'nai Or 14-8. The game went back and forth for a while but

hitting was led by Jeff Walsh who was 3-3 with 2 clutch 2 out hits for RBI's
and Brian Altschul who was 2 for 2. Beth Shalom lost their 2nd in a row in the
bottom of the 7th - this time to B'nai Israel 12-11. With a 1st inning 2 run
homerun from Doug Netburn , 2 run single from Harris Kirsch and 2 run double by

Sharey Tefilo Israel (3-0) continued their hot start in

back in the bottom of the inning with 7 more but 4 more from Temple Sinai in
the 3rd and 4th narrowed the margin again at 11-9. An outstanding diving catch
in center field by Dave Denenberg ended Temple Sinai's scoring and TSTI plated
the last 9 runs from that point. David Kramer added to the offense with 2
homeruns over the rightfield fence at the field behind the High School. B'nai

and David Reiss also homered.
In the B division only Agudath Israel (3-0) remained
unbeaten with a close 10-9 last inning win over Beth Shalom (2-1). BS got off
to an early 2-0 lead thanks to Doug Netburn's (3-3, 3 RBI's, 3 runs) 1st inning
homer. CAI answered with a total of 6 in the 1st and 3rd but a 5 run 6th put
Beth Shalom up 9-8. It looked like Charlie Kessler tied it up for sure in the
bottom of the 6th but Phil Sperling took away the sure home run with a
tremendous defensive play in centerfield. Beth Shalom failed to score in the
7th and Paul Aronoff (4-4, 3 runs, 3 RBI's) hit the game winning 2 run double
with 1 out. Also for the winners, Simeon Gutman had 2 hits and 4 RBI's while

Sharey Tefilo Israel continued to roll with a 29-12
win over B'nai Abraham. TSTI had a 19-1
lead before B'nai Abraham came back with a 10 run 4th inning but it was too big
a deficit to overcome. In the win at Okner, Carey Bayer hit the wall for a
triple and Steve Weisman led the defense with a stellar play. TSTI has now won their first 2 games by an
average score of 19 runs. B'nai Shalom notched their first win but it took 8
innings. They were ahead by 9-3 into the bottom of the 6th but Temple Sinai
scored 6 to tie it up. Greg Frankel's 2nd homerun of the day gave them a 1 run
lead in the top of the 7th but Sinai came right back to tie it up again. In the
8th it was an RBI single by Bennett Schwartz and a 2 run double by Keith Bader
setting up the 13-11 win for B'nai Shalom. In the victory both Harry Katz and
Mike Volpe were 3 for 4 while Larry Prince had a big 2 run triple. AABJD showed
they belong back in the A division defeating Temple Emanu-El 26-16.
For the winners, Jay Gertleman had a 2 run homer, Rafi Abromowitz had a
3 run homer, and Ariel Fournier had a 2 run homer. Also, 4 RBI's each for

Jeshurun beat Pine Brook 11-6.
Temple Sholom of West Essex has established themselves
as the clear favorite in the B division after winning their 2nd game in a row
by at least 15 runs. This time it was a 22-7 win over Chabad. Every player on
Temple Sholom had at least one hit with Glenn Lieberman and Jeff Goldberger both
3-3. The team was solid defensively and for the 2nd game in a row first baseman
Dan Natt turned an unassisted double play.
In a close high scoring affair Beth Shalom outlasted
B'nai Brith 21-17. Jared Resnick started things off for B'nai Brith with a 3
run homer in the first. After Wayne Neumann's 2 run triple climaxed an 8 run 9
hit 4th inning barrage B'nai Brith had a 17-10 lead. But BB would not score
again and Beth Shalom opened the bottom of the 6th inning with a lead off triple
by Harris Kirsch followed by 8 consecutive hits for 9 runs to take a 21-17 lead
into the final frame. Zach Cohen (double),
Doug Netburn (triple), Jeff Wasserman, Neil Grossman, and Aaron Attermann

starting with a 2 run homer by Scott Reis for CAI in the first inning. But
Suburban Torah led by 4 runs when CAI erupted for 7 runs in the 6th on the way
to the 13-11 win. The big inning included a 2 run homer by Simeon Gutman. Greg
Adelsberg also homered for Agudath and all 10 players scored at least 1 run. Ner
Tamid was playing B'nai Or and with homeruns from Josh Doros and Justin Festa,
Ner Tamid had a 6-5 lead over B'nai Or in the 4th inning. But B'nai Or came
back with 3 in the 5th and 4 in the 6th on the way to a 15-9 lead into the
bottom of the 7th. After the bottom of Ner Tamid's line up came through with 4
consecutive hits NT had the bases loaded down 15-12 with 2 outs but the game
ended with a fly out to left field. For the winners, Keith Barbarosh and Craig
Rosen each had 3 RBI's and 3 hits, 12 of the 13 batters had at least 1 hit, 10

Week 1 Writeup 4/13/14
Temple Sinai exploded for 9 runs in the bottom of the
3rd to take a 10-5 lead over the E-Men but Temple Emanu-El answered with 14
runs in the top of the 4th on the way to a 26-14 win. Homeruns for the E-Men
came from Adam Phelps, Don Newell and Marc Berger. Tim O'Neil added a triple
and Dennis Bellovin, Glen Handler and Andrew Greenberg also had multiple
hits. The defending champions of the A
division, Sharey Tefilo Israel, had no trouble in their first game back
defeating B'nai Shalom 24-3. It was a solid team effort with good all around
defense and the whole lineup chipping in with singles and doubles as they
scored in every inning. The defending champions of last year's B division
reintroduced themselves into the A division by edging B'nai Jeshurun 12-11.
Doug Eisenberg had a 3 run triple and Jeff Falkenstein had a 2 run single in
the 6th. Ariel Fournier had an RBI single in the 6th to drive in the go ahead
run. Also in the upper division, Pinebrook had an opening day win over B'nai
Abraham by the score of 18-8.
Temple Sholom of West Essex served notice to the rest
of the B division handling their first game down there ever with a 21-6 win over B'nai Israel. The Temple Sholom
offense started strong with 7 in the first and never looked back. Jeff Shapiro
had a homerun and Jeff Goldberger had 2 four baggers to lead the winners. The
defense turned 2 double plays including an unassisted DP by first baseman Dan
Natt. Chabad opened up their season with a 25-10 win over AABJD / Ohr Torah
with homeruns from Evan Bell, Jon Tlishas, and Tuvia Sahl. Jeff Stiel added a 3
run double. Agudath Israel won a close one against B'nai Brith 8-6. In the win,
6 players had 2 hits and James Gurland had 3 hits including an RBI double in
the 7th adding an important insurance run. Beth Shalom played B'nai Or behind
the high school on Joe Rizzuto's old field. After a moment of silence in Joe's
honor all the bats remained silent for 2 innings also. B'nai Or scored 4 runs
in the bottom of the 3rd but Beth Shalom bounced back with 7 in the 4th and
held on for an 11-7 win. On offense Jonathan Ruditser had 3 hits including a
triple. Doug Netburn had a 3 run homer. Michael Elchoness had a solo shot and
Zach Cohen had a triple. The outfield had some outstanding defensive plays from
Mark Konstandt, Phil Sperling, Doug Netburn and Jeff Katz. Ner Tamid is tied
for 1st place for the first time since 2005 when they also beat Suburban Torah
in the opener. This time it was a 17-12 victory which was led by Rob Crum and
Ron Festa with 4 hits each. Mike Miller added 3.
