Livingston Temple Softball League 04/17/16
Temple Sharey Tefilo Israel
picked up right where they left off winning both ends of their opening day
double header. The first game was a 20-5 win over Temple Sholom of West Essex
with Mike Somehk’s 4 hits leading the offense . Steve Weisman, David Kramer and
Dave Pressel had 3 hits each. On defense Larry Feigenbaum and Jason Grebin made
great catches. The 2nd game was a 21-2 win over Pine Brook with Matt
Katz and Dave Pressel getting 4 hits apiece. Jeff Becker and David Kramer each
had 3 hits. Nice defensive plays were made by Ken Gorman and Carey Bayer. Eric
Rothfeld pitched well both games. Billy Perlman had his first at bat in 8 years
for TSTI and celebrated his 80th birthday with a single. Chabad lost
24-9 to Temple Sinai in the first game despite a triple and homerun from David
Levine. Scott Bader was 3-3 with a walk in the loss. Chabad bounced back to
take their 2nd game 10-9 over Suburban Torah. Leadoff hitter Scott
Bader went 4-4 and Jon Tishlas hit a homer and triple for the winners. David
Levine went 3-3 with a homerun and 2 doubles while playing excellent defense in
right center. Jeff Steil pitched both games on short notice and also
contributed with 4 hits on the day. Pine Brook defeated B'nai Brith 17-13 to
finish off a split of their 2 games. Temple Sinai was the only other A division
team to sweep both ends of their DH. They defeated B'nai Brith 13-9 in the 2nd
game.
In the B division, Agudath
Israel was the only team to win 2 games. They defeated B'nai Or 17-2 with Joe
Kelmanovich and Robert Field going 3 for 3. Kevin Haney hit a home run over the
left field fence at Okner for the winners also.
CAI got the best of B'nai Abraham 13-9 in the 2nd game with a HR from
Simeon Gutman and triples from Paul Aronoff (bases clearing go ahead) and
Robert Field. Paul also had a spectacular diving catch of a line drive in left
which he converted into a double play. B'nai Or fared better in the 2nd game
defeating AABJD Ohr Torah 25-18. Pitcher Bill Schlosser had 2 triples, 3 runs
and 5 RBI's. Jason Cohen added 4 hits and 3 runs. Todd Gutkin (4 hits, 4 runs,
3 RBI). Eric Axler (3 hits, 4 runs, 4 RBI). Adam Lazer (3 hits, 4 runs. 3 RBI).
And Ira Forman 3 hits. Ner Tamid lost their first game by a score of 17-2 to
B'nai Abraham but came back strong in the 2nd game to defeat Temple Emanu-El
17-5. In that game for Ner Tamid David Dreier had a 2 run homer, Bob Perris had
a 3 run triple and TNT turned a rare 3-3-2 double play. B'nai Jeshurun lost a close game to Beth
Shalom 12-10 highlighted with good defensive plays from both sides. For Beth
Shalom Bob Sperling (3 hits, double, 2 runs, 3 RBI), Steve Siegal (3 hits, 2
doubles, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Mike Elchoness (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Dan Bank (3 hits, 2 runs). On defense Steve
Siegal (2nd base ) and Doug Netburn (1st base) both turned unassisted double plays. Beth Shalom was down 7-2 early and came from behind to win while shutting out
B'nai Jeshurun over the last 3 innings. TBJ took it out on B'nai Israel the 2nd
game winning 30-9. No games next week. May 1 we will have another DH. First
game will be the regularly scheduled game from May 1 at 9 AM. 2nd
game will be the early game from the 4/10 rainout.
