Livingston Temple Softball League 08/03/14
Temple Sinai did what no team had been able to do for
the last 2 months - hold Sharey Tefilo Israel to under 15 runs. But it was
still not enough for the win with TSTI completing their undefeated 17-0 season in
a 13-6 championship game victory. The game started slowly with TSTI up 3-0
after 1 inning. In the bottom of the 2nd the score was still 3-0 and Temple
Sinai got the first 2 Sharey Tefilo Israel batters out but the flood gates
opened and TSTI scored 7 runs before making the 3rd out. With a comfortable 10-0
lead they coasted to the 13-6 win. TSTI has now won 21 games in a row and this
was their 3rd A division title and 4th overall. They are the only team aside
from Temple Emanu-El to win consecutive A division titles but still trail the
E-men who have claimed 5 championships.
B'nai Brith was the home team in the B division championship
game and Suburban Torah took advantage by scoring 4 in the top of the 1st.
After failing to score in the bottom of the inning BB gave up 2 more runs to ST
to go down 6-0. Wayne Neumann blasted a 2 run triple on the way to a 3 run bottom
of the 2nd but that was as close as BB would get all day. By the bottom of the
7th ST had opened up an insurmountable 13-4 lead with the game ending at 13-7.
Pitcher Mike Wengrofsky had the B'nai Brith batters off balance all game while
Jeff Suskind turned 2 double plays at SS and hit for the cycle. Seth Leeds was
4-4 in the win. This was Suburban Torah's 2nd B division title (2003) and that
ties B'nai Abraham for most B division titles. Moving up to the A division next
season will be Temple Sholom of West Essex and Suburban Torah. Dropping to the
B division will be Temple Emanu-El and B'nai Abraham.
